Boarding Kennels

At A1 Kennels and Cattery we ensure your pet recieves the best and complete care during their stay with us. We provide 4 different types of kennels to cater for different dogs:

Little Fluffy Dogs

This is a separate block of kennels especially designed for small dogs to keep them separate from the larger dogs which may intimidate them. These kennels have recently been renovated. They boast substantially sized kennels with verandah's to ensure protection from the tropical wet season and shade in the dry and build up seasons.

There is a large run area for each of the 4 kennels. The run area has a concrete path around the perimeter to keep little paws dry. In the middle of the run is a sandpit - for little paws that like to dig! The sand also provides excellent drainage in Darwin's wet weather. In the middle of the sandpit are rocks for little dogs who like to climb and be "King" of their mountain. And as with any luxury resort, all runs have their own swimming pools for that cool dip!

Single Large Dogs

This area is for medium to large dogs. These kennels are also in blocks of 4 to each run area. The kennels have two areas. There is the "front room" where their food and water is kept and also a back " bedroom" which is a safe haven for " shy" or storm scared dogs. For the more sociable dogs, there is enough space in the front "room" for their beds so that they can still be in contact with their mates next door.
The run areas are very large and have plenty of shady trees. They also have their own pools for the dogs to splash about in.
The dogs are alternated in and out of the runs throughout the day.

Family Areas

These kennels are a new addition. There are 14 family kennels. They have been designed for multiple dogs in one family. These kennels are exteremely large and can easily house 3 to 4 dogs. They have their own shady run area and these dogs are only locked in their kennels in the case of a severe storm or cyclone. Staff will stay with these dogs at feed time to ensure that everyone is getting their fair share - especially if there's a labrador in amongst there!

Confinement

We have 4 kennels specifically for dogs that are suffering from illness, injury or females in season. We have also used these kennels as a maternity ward from time to time and have one of the puppies to prove it! These kennels are close to the house and far away from the rest of the kennels to provide the dogs with a quiet area whilst being close enough to us for close supervision. These kennels are slightly smaller and are very shady and fully enclosed to keep females in season safe from any wandering males in the area.

Veterinary Service

Should the need arise, we have an excellent vet on call 24hours a day.

Fleas & Ticks

Please leave all parasites at home! We reserve the right to treat an animal with fleas and ticks at your expense.

Diets

We offer dogs a choice of Royal Canin or Eco Pet Dog Roll, both of which are vet recommended diets for dogs. If your dog has a special dietry requirement or preferences, we are happy to accommodate where possible. Please feel free to bring these requirements in for your dog during their stay with us.

Vaccinations

All dogs must have current C5 vaccination. The C5 vaccination comprises of parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza (the viral component of canine cough) and bordatella bronchiseptica (the bacterial component of canine cough). A copy of this certificate must be brought in with your dog on admission.

Hygiene

For the comfort of all our animals, we ask that you check your animal for ticks and fleas prior to boarding to help us keep the kennels free of these pests. If your animal has a problem with ticks or fleas, please phone us to discuss stategies for eliminating these problems early. We recommend tick injections for dogs. We also offer a hydrobathing service using all natural products with Pine Oil that are extremely effective at eliminating ticks and fleas, and safe for your dog's delicate skin. This service is available for our guest pets and also local pets.

Hydrobath

We provide a hydrobathing service using all natural products with Pine Oil that are extremely effective at eliminating ticks and fleas, and safe for your dog's delicate skin. All dogs who stay with us for a week or more are given a complimentary hydrobath before they go home. To protect the rest of the dogs in the kennels, if your dog arrives at the kennels with ticks we will hydrobath it before putting it in the kennels and a service fee will be charged to your account. As we are sure you will appreciate and understand our concerns on ensuring a high quality standard of hygiene is maintained at all times in our kennels.

A monthly hydrobath is highly recommended as part of your tick and flea elimination program. Enquire about our ongoing hydrobathing service for your local dogs!
